OnondagaMan 70.3 Triathlon

Jersey Shore Triathlon Club President Corey Lowell was one of about a dozen club members in Jamesville NY on June 1, 2024 for the OnondagaMan race. She sat with me recently to talk about her experience at this inaugural event. The smile on her face as she recalled the events of weekend was very telling.

Corey described the event — near Syracuse, NY — as a beautiful, fast, clean and warm reservoir swim followed by a challenging bike course and an exhilarating run. The compliments for the race director were plentiful—most notably the fact that each and every athlete was greeted by name with a handshake as they entered the water.

Approximately 300 triathletes participated and the JSTC had enough participants to have their own designated area in transition. It’s always fun to have your club family close by at events like this! This 70.3 distance race offered a little something for everyone — a 70.3 triathlon with an Aquabike option, as well as plentiful volunteer posts for those not racing but supporting friends and family. A rather unique perk of this event is the “no cutoff time” for each discipline.

Medals were awarded to finishers by JSTC member Barbara Lesinski who describes her Sherpa/volunteer duties as “rewarding” at the event.

Corey has completed eight 70.3 events and said she would certainly recommend this one; she ranks it ‘right in the middle’ among all the races she’s done. So if you’re thinking about a 70.3 in 2025 … keep this one in mind. (There may even be a special club discount coming our way.)

I asked Corey to describe the event using the letters of her name:

Challenging

Oscillating

Relaxing

Energizing

Yeomans work

(That last one was worth a google search for sure 😉)

Congratulations to Corey and all of the JSTC family who made this event such a success!
